Ecotronics Eco Mic

From the Manufacturer

Ecotronic Toys are planet friendly techno fun. Did you know there are billions of batteries sold in the US every year – many of them for toys – but only about 1% of them are recycled? The rest end up in our landfills and are poisoning our planet. The world’s resources are diminishing quickly and we can’t afford this kind of waste, financially or ecologically. But you know what? Energy doesn’t have to cost anything. Ecotronic Toys bring electronic lights and

If I had known, if anywhere it had been written, that this toy will relentlessly play “Pop Goes the Weasel” when the blue button is pushed, and that once it starts it won’t stop until it’s through, I would not have purchased it. It’s a shame because otherwise it’s a great toy – no batteries ever needed (unfortunate only because of the “Pop Goes the Weasel” feature), very sturdy, the amplifying aspect of the microphone is fine. I appreciate the minimal packaging and somewhat ecologically sound approach. I hate being held hostage by that annoying tune.

I am updating this review to report that the toy has broken after two months of normal use. So much for “eco” – now it is a hunk of plastic headed for the landfill. I have tried to adjust the “star rating” for “durability” to one star, although it doesn’t seem to reflect my changes when published. Avoid.

I bought the Ecotronics Mic to use in my work with children. After only a few uses, the toy stopped working. It now produces an annoying loud clicking noise when cranked–no more lights, music, or sound effects. The microphone aspect of the toy was always very poor. Also the toy was not dependable from the beginning–it required lots of energetic cranking to work for a couple of minutes. Then, it tended to start and stop lights and sounds on its own rather than at command. It appeared that the buttons were constantly getting stuck. This toy was not abused or even banged around by kids–I cranked it and tried to demonstrate how to use it. It was only used with adult supervision. Now it’s not used at all! Given the price of this toy, it’s definitely not worth purchasing. The toy is a nice idea that needs work.
